John & Zilpah (also Zilphy & Zilph[i]a) COGGIN moved from Fairfield to Chester Co., SC, about 1800. The widowed Zilpah moved to Georgia about 1818—first to Jasper Co., then to Walton Co., and finally to Newton (formerly Henry, now Rockdale) Co. Then some of the family moved on to Chambers Co., AL about 1833.
John's brother appears to be Revolutionary War soldier William COGGIN, born 1755 SC(?), died 1862-1863, Gordon Co., GA. William's uncle (his mother’s brother?) was Richard YARBROUGH. Richard's brothers include Owen & Thomas Griggs YARBROUGH, also probably William & John YARBROUGH—all possibly the sons of Thomas Griggs YARBROUGH & Mary SPURLOCK of Virginia. William COGGIN’s mother may have been a Mary YARBROUGH. According to the pension information, William COGGIN's father was Thomas COGGIN, who died while in Virginia on business in 1775.
