Census

1850 • Township No. (unstated), Hardin, Illinois, United States

On August 20th, James Cowsert, age 30, farmer, born in Illinois, was enumerated as the head of household. Also in home were Mahala Cowsert, age 20, born in Tennessee, Julian Cowsert, age 8, born in Illinois, and Luisa J Cowsert, age 3, born in Illinois.[1]

Burial

James Cowsert was buried at Stone Church Cemetery in Hardin County, Illinois. The inscription showed that James Cowsert was in Company B of 131st Illinois Infantry Civil War and was the husband of Mahala Ashford.[2]
