From Wilma Lawson Padgett's 9/14/2002 update to her book "Early Virginia Settlers, Blackard, DeHart, Hubbard, Hurst, Lawson, Shelor, Southern, Thompson, Turner", August 2001
"My uncle George Lawson, nephew of Rev. William Madison Lawson, wrote that James and Lucy Lawson lived on Burks Fork Creek, Reed Island; that Capt. James and John Cox were the brothers of Lucy Cox. He also wrote that William was the only son of James and Lucy. Perhaps James never married Lucy. James was living in Stokes County, NC when William married Annie Thompson. A John Cox was the father of Andrew Cox and this John moved to Grayson Co.,Va. about 1772 I have no way to prove it but Lucy Cox was probably Dicy Cox, mother of Elizabeth Lawson who married Roland Hurt. Mother Dicy and William Lawson signed the bond for Elizabeth to marry Roland. Elizabeth Lawson Hurt died in Beckley, WVa. and her obituary stated that she was the daughter of Charles and Diana Lawson, born in 1870 in Grayson Co., Va."
Note that the above obituary for Elizabeth disputes the parentage.
