Stephen Cox was a Virginia colonist.

Stephen was born about 1704. He is the son of William Cox and Sarah Dennis. He is not listed as living in his son Stephen Cox's will in 1758.

Stephen is named in his father William Cox will written 20 Feb 1711, recorded 2 Jun 1712, Henrico Co VA:

  • 1711/2/20, Cox, William, planter, will rec 1712/6/2. wife Sarah, son Stephen, dts: Martha, Mary, Prudence, Judith, Ede Cox, and Elizabeth Jamson. wit: Robert Burton, William Cox. Colonial Wills of Henrico Co VA, 1654-1737, Weisiger,pg 87.

STEPHEN COX was bequeathed his father’s plantation, a slave, and furniture in the latter’s will, 20 February 1711, and a silver salt cellar and tumbler in his mother’s will, 29 March 1726. He patented 800 acres on the north side of Appomattox River in Goochland County, Virginia, 11 April 1732 (Land Office Patents 14 [1728-1732], p. 420) and another 400 acres in Goochland County, 15 August 1737 (Land Office Patents 17 [1735-1738], p. 404). He left a will proved 5 January 1743 in Cumberland County, Virginia. He married JUDITH WOODSON, daughter of John and Judith (Tarleton) Woodson (see Woodson; “Woodson Family”, W&MQ 9 [1901]: 255)[1].

Cox-21429 and Cox-1619 do not represent the same person because: The birth date for Martha is after the death date of her father... There must be a generation in between that ties Martha in.
