She lived in Columbia Falls, Maine, in her early years, and, after her parents' divorce, moved to Massachusetts with her mother and, later, step-father. She graduated from Everett High School in 1936 and by 1940 was working as a student nurse at Boston City Hospital. She contracted tuberculosis while caring for patients and in 1944 she passed away from this disease. She is buried with her mother at Glenwood Cemetery in Everett, Massachusetts.
