Biography

James was born in February 1854[1] and christened in 1855. He is the son of James Cox and Elizabeth Dorrell.

He left England at the age of 17 from Liverpool on/about 10 September 1871 and arrived in Port of New York on 24 September with manifest signed by Capt Samuel Brooks, master of the ship, City of Brooklyn, on the 26th of September [2].

He met Catherine Carden in Pike County, Georgia and was married on 21 May, 1876. [3]

The family moved to Newton County Mississippi between 1898 and 1900 based on childrens' ages and places of birth listed on the 1900 census.

He died on 14 October 1903 and is buried in Greenland Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton County, Mississippi. [4]
