Biography

Robert Cox was born about 1808 in England. In 1833 he was convicted at Derby Assizes for the theft of goats and sentenced to seven years and was transported to New South Wales, Australia on the ship Fairlie, arriving on 15th February, 1834.[1][2] He was granted Certificate of Freedom on 9th April 1940. [3]

He married Mary Tafy on 13 September 1843 in Yass, New South Wales. [4]

They had two children during their marriage. He died on 8 October 1888 in Yass, New South Wales, having lived a long life of 80 years.

Research Notes

Convict records state his native place as Derbyshire, not Yorkshire as this profile previously stated. Changed to just England. Needs further research. Death record for Yass not found, but there is one in 1888 registered in Ryde.
