Herbert was born in 1893.[1] He was the son of Herbert Lewis Cox and Alice Jane Parry.
He was baptised on 12 November 1893 at Westminster, West Kilburn St Luke, England. His father was an Estate Agent.
He lived with his parents and sister Winifred in Lambeth, London, England. In 1911 he was aged 17 and single.

Herbert married Florence Virginia Shotter on 10 August 1915 at the Register Office, 220 Brixton Road, London, England.[2]
They had at least three sons.
He and his wife were living at 3 Barnes Cottage, Crawford Street, Stockwell when he enlisted to fight in the 1st World War. He was aged 22 and working as a Sawman and Casemaker. His Attestation papers were signed on 24 June 1916. He was assigned to the London Regiment, King's Royal Rifle Corps, as a Private.
He was awarded the Victory Medal.
In the 1939 England and Wales Register Herbert was living at 10 Arlingford Rd, Lambeth, London, England with his wife Florence and son Herbert.[3]

He passed away in 1949 at the age of about 55. [4]
