James Duncan Cox, Jr. was born on June 17, 1917, in Estella, Craig, Oklahoma.

The 1920 U.S. Census for Township 5, Craig, Oklahoma, finds the following family: James D. Cox, male, age 33. He is white, married, and can read and write. He was born in Oklahoma, as was his mother. His father was born in Indiana. Mary C. Cox, wife, age 32, born in MO; Riley O. Cox, son, age 5, born in OK (translation is in error; check the original document for confirmation of first name); Cora L. Cox, daughter, age 4, born in OK; James D. Cox, Jr., son, age 2, born in OK; Lucile N. Cox, daughter, an infant, born in OK.

Jim Cox died on February 19, 2005, in Norman, Cleveland, Oklahoma. He is buried in Scott Cemetery in Estella.
