MAINLY ABOUT PEOPLE.
A wedding took place at St. Phillip's Church, Church Hill, on Wednesday, June 28, when Herbert Wyatt, eldest son of the late H. A. Cox, of Burrundulla, and Mrs. Cadell, of Cockenzie, Mudgee, was married to Beenie, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Capel, Gooyong, Roseville, and formerly of Menedebri. The Rev. E. H. Webber per formed the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white duchess satin, with an overdress of embroidered net and pearls and myrtle, and a wreath of orange blossoms and a tulle veil. She carried a shower bouquet, which, with a pearl and tourmaline necklet, were the gifts of the bridegroom. The two bridesmaids, Miss Bertha Capel (sister of the bride) and Miss Doris Wyatt Cox (sister of the bridegroom), wore apricot ninon over pink satin with silver bugle trimmings and Juliet caps. Their bouquets of pink carnations and roses, with tourmaline pendants, were the gifts of the bride groom. The best man was Mr. L. Wyatt Cox, and the groomsman, Mr. Richard Capel. After the ceremony the bride's parents held an enjoyable reception at Petty's Hotel. Later Mr. and Mrs. H. Wyatt Cox left by motor for Kiama, the bride travelling in a green tailor-made coat and skirt, and black velvet toque and grey stole and muff.[4]
Herbert Wyatt Cox died on 31 October 1946 at Mudgee, New South Wales.[5]
DEATH
Mr. H. W. Cox
As briefly reported in Thursday's issue Mr. Herbert Wyatt Cox died in his sleep at his home at 'Burranah,' Mudgee, during the night or early morning.
Deceased, who was 62 years of age, was a son of the late Herbert Cox, a member of the pioneer Burrundulla family. He spent practically the whole of his life in this district, where he followed pastoral pursuits.
Like most of the Cox family, the late Mr. Cox was keenly interested in public affairs, and linked up with various associations. A very old and valued member of the Bligh Amateur Racing Club he naturally figured as an owner, and his colours were carried at meetings conducted on the local course. In the social activities of the club he was even more prominent, and for many years carried out the duties of hon. secretary of the ball committee. He also identified himself with the Mudgee branch of the Graziers' Association, and was held in high regard by his fellow members.
But it was, perhaps, in patriotic endeavour that deceased gave the very best that was in him. During the war period, he identified himself with the activities at Munna and rendered wonderful service, which will be long remembered by those with whom he was associated.
Altogether, the late Wyatt Cox was a man of fine parts, and his passing away will be deplored right throughout the district.
To his sorrowing widow (who was absent on holidays at the time of her husband's death), the heart-felt sympathy of the whole district will be extended. Other sorrowing members of the family are sons Thomas Wyatt and Richard Wyatt and Mrs. John Thompson (daughter), of Bylong; Mr. L. Cox (England) is a brother, while a sister (Miss Doris Cox) resides at Mosman. These bereaved ones too, will have the sympathy of their many friends.
An impressive service was conducted in St. John's Church of England on Friday afternoon by the Rev. Canon Powell, and later the remains were conveyed to the Northern Suburbs cemetery for cremation. The local arrangements were carried out by Messrs. J. C. Swords and Son. [6]
He was buried at Mudgee General Cemetery, Mudgee, New South Wales. [7]
