Biography

Disputed Origins

Margaret is the daughter of Thomas Cox (ca. 1650-1724) and Rebecca Clarke (d. circa 1724).

Note that a competing identity would suggest that she was born 2 Nov 1680 in Charles, Maryland to James and Margaret Cox.[1] This "competing" Margaret married John Willis (ca. 1686-1712), though (and has alternate parents).

Margaret Cox was born before 1677. She married John Disharoon. Among their children were William, and Mary Frances. She died about 1754.

Little is documented about this Margaret, except the below migration event, which would be in line with her father having been Thomas Cox of Hereford in Herefordshire. One arrival record suggests that her father may have come through Long Island in 1665.[2] Despite the variance between daughter Margaret arriving in 1681 and her father arriving in 1665, probate and calendar of Will records document his death in 1724 Maryland.[3][4]

The only certain documentation about her is a passenger record, showing her Maryland arrival in 1681.[5]

Research Notes

FamilySearch previously listed as her surname Stevens, and had had her father suggested as John Stevens (ca. 1665-1705), but with no source documentation.

Cox-4341 and Cox-3320 appear to represent the same person because: the identity of these two Margarets becomes clear with the parents, who previously were not attached or were previously otherwise unidentified
