Francis was born in 1858. He was the son of Joseph Cox and Frances Mary Ann James.
Francis and Mary Louise Baily married in 1885 in West Virginia. The couple had ten children. Second son, Joseph, died at 7 months, daughters Nettie, Myrtle and Mary died young, third son Francis died at 5 years, and fourth son, Alvah was killed at age 15 in a mine accident.
Francis Marion Cox worked as a foreman for the coal mines.
1910 lived in Lipps, Wise County, Virginia. Francis passed away in 1913 in Coeburn, Virginia. Francis was buried in Bluefield, West Virginia.
