Joshua John Crabtree 1835 - 1893 married Mahala Wright 1840 - 1922.

1. Mary Elizabeth Crabtree (1859 - 1925) Born in Flat Lick, Knox County, Kentucky, USA on 11 Oct 1859 to Joshua John Crabtree and Mahala Wright. Mary Elizabeth Crabtree married Buford Menefee Wren and had 3 children. She passed away on 16 Jan 1925 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA.

Research Note

• Joshua is believed to be the son of Jacob Crabtree ( - Jan 1838) and Fereby (Phereby) (Barnes) Crabtree Catlett.

Fereby Barnes is said to have been married (date unknown by me) to the Jacob Crabtree of Lee County, who was to be hanged on Friday, Jan 5, 1838, in Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia for murder of George Blaze. I found the record of the scheduled hanging on GenealogyBank.com news article, Staunton spectator, and general advertiser. Thursday, Dec 28, 1837, Staunton, VA, Vol: 15, Page: 3. Additional details of the said murder and trial were found in News Article in THE LYNCHBURG VIRGINIAN., Thursday, Sep 14, 1837, Lynchburg, VA, Page: 2. A wife who had left Jacob Crabtree was mentioned by Jacob's father but no name was mentioned.

If this story is correct, then Fereby (Barnes) Crabtree married John Catlett on 22 Jan 1842 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Josh and his sister, Mahala, were living in the household in the 1850 census. The remaining children were children of John Catlett and Fereby. BJS
