Biography

Celia Ann was the daughter of Joel Crabtree of West Virginia and Elizabeth Houicar of Kentucky.[1] She was born in June[2] 1857 or 1859 in "West" Virginia.[1] As a child she was enumerated in Wayne County, WV, in the household of Elizabeth Crabtree.[3]

Celia married Thomas Muncy about 1879.[2]

In 1900 the census recorded that Celia was the mother of 11 children, 7 of whom were living.

Celia and Thomas had at least the following children:

  1. Virgie b. 1882
  2. Sadie b. 1885
  3. Elizabeth b. 1890
  4. Nevada b. 1892
  5. Everett b. 1894
  6. Georgie O Muncy b. 1895

The Register of Deaths for Wayne County, WV, records the deaths of three children of Thos and C.A. Muncy in 1898, all of typhoid fever.[4]

  1. Gallie Muncy, died 2 July 1898, male, aged 1y1m15d
  2. Thos. Muncy, died 7 Aug 1898, male, aged 9y10m2d
  3. T.E. Muncy, died 11 Dec 1898, male, aged 17y5m8d

In 1930, Celia and Thomas were enumerated in Ohio living with their daughter Georgia Marshall, and several grandchildren.[5]

Celia died in Lawrence County, Ohio, on 30 December 1936.[6]

She was buried on 2 January 1937 at Mills Creek in Ohio.[1]

Research Notes

Was unable to find a source for the marriage of Thomas Muncy and Celia Crabtree. In the mid-20th century, delayed birth records for Celia and Thomas's children are the earliest record I found of her maiden name Crabtree. (Compton-2184 16:20, 5 June 2017 (EDT))

Query whether the Muncie children living with Thomas and Celia in 1930 were the children of Everett Muncie d. 1929. (Compton-2184 17:25, 5 June 2017 (EDT))
