Preston Jones Craft was born 31 May, 1918 in Clay County, Kentucky. He passed away on 13 June, 2002 in Clay County, Kentucky.[1]
In his birth record in 1918, we find that his mother was named Sarah Hensley.[2]
In the census of 1920, ‘’’Preston Jones Craft’’’ is shown living with his family in Clay county, Kentucky, and is one year old. His father, Russell Craft, was 26 years of age and was a farmer. Mother, Sarah Craft was 22, and older sister, “Pinia,” (Vina) was age 5.[3]
The census of 1930 shows that Preston’s mother Sarah had remarried one Perry Roark, indicating Preston’s father had either passed away or gotten divorced between 1920 and 1930. Also in the home are three Roark children, and siblings Vina, Preston and Owen, ages 16, 11, and 9, respectively.[4]
The census of 1940 shows the large family now living with Perry Roark, Preston’s step father in Clay county. There is now Preston, age 20, Owen age 18, and a jockey (horse), Lou, 15 YO daughter, Alvin 13, Bob 11, Johnnie 9, Mary 9, Etta 6 and Mattie 7 months.[5]
Another census of 1940 shows Preston, 21, living with his grandmother, Mary Jane, and an aunt, with the name written Craft by the census taker age 43, and an uncle, Gilbert.[6]
Love found Preston when he married Lilian Vanoy in Pulaski County on December 19, 1940.
Preston passed away on 13 June 2002[7]and is buried at Manchester Memorial Gardens in Manchester, Kentucky.[8]
