Almost every year throughout the late 1940s and '50s I had memorable visits to 29 Daniel St, West End, Cessnock where my grandfather, Arthur James Craft (1891-1964), lived next door to HIS uncle, Arthur Blue-Gum Craft ( 1882-1963). The relationship was unmistakable. They could have been taken for twin brothers in every respect. Their uncle/nephew relationship was difficult to believe - especially in the eyes of a small grandson/grandnephew who was always in awe of both of these wonderful old men who kept me enthralled with their tales of the “old days”.

Arthur Blue-Gum’s second wife (my grand aunt Ethel, 1889-1949) spoiled me with both food and entertainment. It is most fitting that such a grand couple represented two of the largest pioneer families in the district – Craft and Bridge.
