George was born in Maine in 1791, the son of William and Susanna (Glover) Craig.
He served as a private in the Army during the War of 1812. He enlisted on September 1, 1812 and was a member of Capt. Joshua Chamberlain's Company of Militia in Major J. Ulmer's Battalion. The regiment was raised at Brewer, Maine and stationed at Eastport, Maine.[1] He was discharged December 31, 1812.[2] He reenlisted on August 4, 1813 in the 33rd U.S. Infantry. At that time he was described as being 5’9” with blue eyes, dark hair and a light complexion.[3]
He married Betsey Mudgett about 1815, with their first child being born in 1816. They resided at Dixmont, Maine[4], where George was a farmer, and had 7 children.
George died in 1855 and was buried at the Simpson Corner Cemetery in Dixmont.
