William was born in 1785. He passed away in 1866.
Married Sarah Moorhead August 27, 1812
They were the parents of nine daughters and one son, supported by the age brackets listed on the 1830 Rockland Twp., Venango Co., PA census, but only four, named on the 1850 census, have been identified: Margaret, b ca 1827; Elizah, b ca 1828; John, b ca 1829; and Eleanor, b ca 1831. In 1860, William, age 73, and Sarah, age 70, were living with daughter Margaret and her son, Thomas Trimble, age 4. Thomas was a posthumous child, his father, Thomas W. Trimble, having died in September or October 1855.
William Craig was captain of an infantry company in a regiment of PA militia commanded by Colonel Rees Hill, serving from 23 April 1813 to 17 September 1813 during the War of 1812. His pension application, made in the early 1850's, reveals that his health was ruined for life from unusual exertion moving timbers to Lake Erie from nearby forests, when the fleet of Commodore Perry was being built.
