Mary was born in Ireland about 1824. She passed away in 1884. She came to America with her husband William Murphy, his daughter Mary Ann ( 5 ), and their young son James. William took a job as an over seer on a plantation in Kentucky. Mary and the children were allowed to take a train to Illinois when the Civil War began. William escaped to Illinois shortly after. They became successful farmers in Illinois.
