Isabella Crandall, known as Essie Belle, was born December 2, 1869 in East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio to Nancy and John Crandall. In 1870, Essie was living in the household of Esther Marshall (her maternal grandmother) with her parents, and sisters, Nellie and Laura.
Essie married Milo Clarence Gleason in about 1893. In 1900, Essie, Clarence and their son, John, were living in East Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio where Clarence was employed as a carpenter.
By 1910, Essie and Clarence had a second son, Almon. The family resided on Eddy Road in East Cleveland. Clarence was employed as a foreman in a hardware store; in 1920, a foreman in a machinery supply company.
Essie died on August 13, 1961 in Millersburg, Ohio of acute myocardial failure. She was 91 years old. She was buried in Highland Park Cemetery in Highland Hills, Cuyahoga, Ohio.
