He married Lucy Ann Crandall, daughter of Peter Crandall and Fanny Crandall, about 1832. Nelson and Lucy Ann had the following children:

In the 1860 census Nelson (age 48), Farm Laborer, was living in Stonington, New London, Connecticut. His household included his wife Lucy (age 43), and children Benjamin F (age 24), Lucy A (age 16) and George P Crandall (age 13).[1]
Nelson died 24 Mar 1896 in Stonington, New London, Connecticut.[2]
