Biography

Robert was born in 1793. He is the son of Elijah Crane and Marian Lockhart.

"Matilda, fourth daughter of John Black, was married to Rev. Robert H. Crane, a Methodist minister. Mr. Crane was highly esteemed both for his piety and zeal. He was stationed on several circuits in Nova Scotia and was finally appointed on circuits in Jamaica and St Vincent. He died in St. Vincent in the year 1839, aged 45 years. leaving his widow a stranger in a strange land." [1]

He died in 1839. The 24 Apr 1839 edition of The New Brunswick Royal Gazette reported: “d. Early Feb., Island of St. Vincent, West Indies, of prevailing fever, Rev. Robert H. Crane travelled upwards twenty years, seven of which were in the West Indies. He had been appointed to Westmorland Co. Circuit in this Province.”[2]
