The announcement of Mahala's marriage appeared in The Shelby Chronicle as follows: "Married - At the residence of the bride's father, Mr. David Spearman, February 23, Mr. William A. Brasher and Miss Rosa E. Spearman. Also on the same day, at, the residence of the bride's father, Mr. J.F. Crane, Mr. Alonzo A. Brasher and Miss Mahala E. Crane, Justice Adams officiating at both."[2]
