The 1871 census lists Arthur as a 9 year old scholar living at 12 Springfield Street, Everton, Lancashire with his parents Mary (52) and William Crane (43) (a licensed victualler) and siblings Mary Ann (15) and James S (10) and a servant Mary Ellen Shaw (18). [2]
The 1881 census shows him a single and 19 years old, working as a wine and spirits merchant, living with his brother John Joseph Crane and sister in law Florence J Crane at 89 Upper Warwick Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, Lancashire. At that stage Florence would have been pregnant with Arthur's nephew who was named after him. [3]
The 1901 census taken on the 31 March 1901 lists Arthur as a 39 year old commercial clerk living at 48 Eaton? Ave, Litherland, Lancashire in the ecclesiastical parish of St Philips Litherland and the registration district of West Derby. His family is living in Eaton Avenue. He lives with his wife Annie E and 3 children: Gladys, Wilson and Leslie. [4]
The 1911 census has Arthur Albert Crane working as a shipbuilder's labourer. He is married and living with his wife Annie Elizabeth Crane and 3 children: Gladys (19, born City of Liverpool), Wilson (18, born Egremont, Cheshire), and Leslie (14 born City of Liverpool, Lancashire) at 6 Clarence Road, Poulton cum Seacombe, Cheshire in the sub district of Wallasey, Birkenhead. He is 49 years old. [5]

Arthur A Crane's death was registered Jul-Sep 1926 in Liverpool, Lancashire. He was 64 years old with birth estimated at 1862. (vol 8B, page 61, line 36). [6]
Probate on his estate said Arthur Albert Crane of 6 Clarence Road Somerville Wallasey Cheshire, died on 16 July 1926 at Liverpool and probate was granted to his son Leslie Crane an assistant accountant on 7 September in Liverpool to the effects of £180.[7]
