Kirksville Daily Express (MO) | 18 July 2013 Trudy Pollock Barnes age 86, of Centralia, MO and formerly of La Plata, MO passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Macon Healthcare Center in Macon, MO. Trudy was born April 10, 1927 in Jefferson, MO, the daughter of Frederick Alfred and Laura Ellen Nichols Crane. On August 5, 1948 in Columbia, MO she was united in marriage to Ralph Eugene Pollock who preceded her in death on July 13, 1989. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Chloe Rippeto and Louise Hunt; son-in-law, Butch Wood; step-daughter, Phyllis Barnes Lumb. On February 14, 2000 she married Harold Barnes of Centralia, MO who survives. Also surviving are one son, Randall (Dru) Pollock of Columbia, MO; two daughters, Ellen Wood and Lori (Dennis) Hall both of La Plata, MO; two step-sons, Gene (Kathleen) Barnes and Johnny Barnes both of Centralia, MO; one step-daughter, Connie (Gary) Blackmore of Columbia, MO; one step-son-in-law, Kenny Lumb of Centralia, MO; seven grandchildren, Leslie (Todd) Gray of Columbia, MO, Amanda (Clint) Fitzpatrick of La Plata, MO, Memory (Bryan) Newton of Gainesville, TX, Jeremiah (Karla) Jackson of La Plata, MO, Angella Jackson of Kirksville, MO, Ashley Jackson of Kansas City, MO, Jenna Pollock of Columbia, MO; nine great-grandchildren; four Barnes grandchildren and numerous Barnes great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Trudy graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia, MO in 1945. She attended the St. Paul's School of Nursing in Dallas, TX and was employed before her marriage as a physician's nurse in Columbia. Trudy and Ralph moved to La Plata March 1, 1959 where they purchased the original Christie Funeral Home and Furniture Store. Later they changed the name to the Pollock Funeral Home. Trudy was an active member of the La Plata Christian Church where she had served as Worship Chairman, Educational Chairman, Vacation Bible School Chairman, Sunday School teacher, choir member and Choir Director. She was a member of Atalpal II Club of La Plata, served on the United Way board, La Plata Park Board and taught swimming lessons at the Santa Fe Lake. She was a past President of the Jewels of El Kadir Shrine Club in Kirksville, MO. She was also a member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and a licensed Missouri Funeral Director. After the death of her husband, she and her daughter, Lori operated the funeral home until closing in 1997. After her marriage to Harold in 2000, Trudy moved to Centralia to the Barnes farm. Trudy and Harold were avid musicians. Trudy loved to read and enjoyed being in the water. She passed that love of swimming and boating on to her children and grandchildren. The family would spend an entire week every year at a cabin at the lake to enjoy the shared pastime. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the La Plata Christian Church with Reverend John Gorham officiating. Music will be provided by Melvin Bissey, soloist and Janice Mitten, organist. Musical selections will be "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord". Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Columbia, MO. Pallbearers will be Leland Collins, Clinton Fitzpatrick, Todd Gray, Jeremiah Jackson, Shaun Holt and Tyler Sadich. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Saturday evening, July 20, 2013, at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home 2100 E.
