The 1881 census shows James Crane as a 9 year old scholar living with his parents Rebecca and John Crane (farmer) in Hardhorn with Newton, Lancashire. It states he was born in Carleton, Lancashire.[3]
The 1891 census shows James Crane as an unmarried 19 year old farmer’s son living with his parents at Whinney Hays, in the parish of Hardhorn with Newton, Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lancashire.[4]
