Biography

Herbert Charles Crane was born in 1871 at Ware, Hertfordshire, England. He was the son of Thomas Crane and Emma Lawrence.[1]

In the 1871 census Herbert C was age 0 living at Ware, Hertfordshire with his father Thomas Crane (31), mother Emma Crane (28), sisters Cecilia Crane (7), Sarah A Crane (2), brother Thomas Crane (5).[2]

In the 1881 census Herbert C Crane was age 10 living at Baldock Street, Ware, Hertfordshire with his father Thomas Crane (41), mother Emma Crane (38), sister Cecilia Crane (17), brothers Thomas Crane (15), Walter L Crane (7), Sidney G Crane (5), Albert H Crane (2).[3]

In the 1891 census Herbert Crane was age 20 living at Low Leyton, Essex with his cousin William Page (25) and his family. Occupation: Waggon Builder Labourer.[4]

In the 1901 census Herbert Crane was age 30 living at Ware, Hertfordshire as a Boarder in the household of Edwin C Goodfellow. Occupation: General Labourer.[5]

In the 1911 census Herbert C Crane was age 40 living at Ware, Hertfordshire with his father Thomas Crane (71), mother Emma Crane (68). Occupation Labourer.[6]

Herbert C Crane married Alice K Suckling (nee Cain), a widow, in 1913 at Ware.[7] They had four children: Florence M Crane (b. 1914), Walter Lawrence Crane (b. 1916), Herbert C Crane (b. 1919), Thomas Crane (b. 1922),

During World War I, Herbert Charles Crane enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and served as a Driver. He served in France from 19 Nov 1915 and was discharged on 2 Dec 1918.[8][9]

Herbert Charles Crane died in 1924 age 52 at Ware.[9][10]
