Like his father (who shared the same name), Samuel was a veterinary surgeon. All relevant censuses state that he was born at Clacton, Essex, but I have not found a baptismal record for him nor for his brother George Henry who was also born there and whose birth was registered in the Tendring district of Essex in 1838. Clacton was also the native place of their mother, Charlotte, but I do not know her maiden name as I have not found her marriage record. (Possibly Samuel's middle name, Salmon, may be relevant to this.)
In 1841 Samuel, his brother George (who also became a veterinary surgeon) and their parents were living at Offton, Suffolk, which was the native place of Samuel senior. By 1851 they were living at Biddenden, Kent, where Samuel and his father were both practising vets., and here Samuel married Elizabeth Freeman in 1856. They lived after their marriage in the neighbouring parish of Benenden where their eleven children were all born and christened. The children were: Elizabeth Charlotte 1857 - 1873, George 1858 - ? (after 1901), Emily 1860 - 1876, Caroline Anne (Swoffer) 1862 - 1933, Henry Percy 1864 - 1864, Alice May 1865 - ? (after 1881), Kate (Hollman) 1866 - 1895, Clara Fanny 1870 - ? (after 1891), Henry James 1871 - 1949, Frederic Ernest 1873 - 1874, Edith Emma 1875 - ? (after 1901).
Samuel died in 1907 and was buried at Benenden on 22nd July.
