Biography

I was born at Crown Street Women's Hospital in 1950. I was the second daughter born to Ernest Cranley and Vera Irvine.

I was educated at Hurstville Primary School, and later at St.George Girls High School, Kogarah.

I left school in 1965. My parents were of the opinion that a girl didn't need on-going education, as she would end up married, with a family.

I joined the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Ltd. and spent the first four years at Hurstville Branch. After that I spent a few years at Sydney University Branch, before finishing up at Granville branch in 1973.

I am married to a Vietnam Veteran, and we are the parents of two sons. We have five beautiful grandchildren.

I took an interest in family history after the death of my father-in law in 1999. Although he was an only child, I began to wonder about all of his Aunties, Uncles and Cousins.

I have been captivated on Family History, ever since. I have been contacted by some of the relatives, who come to add more information, or simply to find out more. I have also been supported by some lovely people on Wiki Tree.

Surnames I am following include

  • IRVINE * WALKER * GRAY * PURNELL * MISON * MARTIN * KEEVERS * HILL * AYMER * COKER * GUILIANI * TILLACK

I have also adopted several files that I am no relation to. They include

  • BATTERHAM * ELKS * TOOVEY

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with M. by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with M.:

I don't think I have been in touch before, it was Darcy Britton I noted as well as Jane May IMildren) and Septimus Britton who are related on my mother's side. she was a Britton, her father being William Thomas Britton and his parents were Henry James Britton and Sarah Hannah Bakes. Are they your relatives? Not sure where you fit in with the Brittons if you do. I have quite a bit of informartion about that family. Thanks Lyn Mitchell

Hi Lyn,

Many thanks for your email on the Britton Family. I am not related to the Britton Family in any way. I may have added some information to this family, as I look for pages up for adoption and try to add to them. There are still pages for the Britton Family that you are related to that are up for adoption. Take a look. I am happy to transfer any Britton files that may have my name on, over to you, if you wish.

Regards

Hi M -

Thanks for looking at Florence Hill - unfortunately Im sure you have her marrying the wrong person. She doesnt marry at all. Have a look - I have created a new profile for the other Florence hill and added then as a sinilar person in a research notes section

Cheers Leisa

Thanks for the updates on Sarah (Bernie) Gray. I don't think she is my family. My wife is in a line of Bernies descended from [Bernie-22|John Bernie]. There was a distinct family in Queensland called Birney. Two cousins in that family were often confused, so one of them changed his name to Bernie. Sarah seems to belong to that family. The only other Bernie family I have found is a couple who immigrated to Victoria. The wife disappears from the records, and probate of the husband's will was taken out by a remoter relative. He seems to have no descendants. Doug.
