Commander of Fort George from 1741-1744. He was active and prominent in Rhode Island affairs his entire life, serving as deputy for Newport at least 10 times. Son of Gov. John Cranston and Mary Clarke, husband of Ann Newberry and Elizabeth Wair, father of 6.
