Laura Sigourney Crawford was born in Sigourney, Iowa, on June 21, 1845. She was the daughter of Josiah and Martha Crawford, being the only survivor of a family of four children. Col. William Crawford, an American soldier and an associate of Washington, at whose request he commanded an expedition against the Delaware Indians and was later captured and burned at the stake, was a distant cousin of Laura Crawford. Her mother having died when she was a small child she lived in the home of Wesley Harris and wife of LaGrange until her marriage. Her death occurred in Whitewater, Wisc, July 14, 1932.
