Funeral services for Mrs Isam Patton (Mable Belle) Lucas, 88, were held in the first Christian Church in Corydon, Iowa, at 10 am June 17, followed by a service in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford at 2:30 pm June 17 with Rev William Habichi officating. Mrs Lucas died June 13, 1980, in Corydon in Wayne County, Iowa. Interment was at Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa.
Mable Belle Crawford, fifth child of Florence and Perry Crawford, was born at Greenville, in Hawkins County, Tennessee, February 5, 1892.
When she was 10 years old, she came with her family to Missouri, and then to Iowa where she spent the remainder of a busy life.
On January 6, 1910, she was united in marriage with Pat Lucas, at Rockport, Missouri. To their union were born six children: Lee, of Sewal, Iowa, Ellis, who died at age 28 in 1940, Francis, of Corydon, Iowa, Ralph of Omaha, Nebraska, Harry, of Moberly, Missouri and Juanita of Sewal, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Ellis; husband, Pat; brothers: Ought, Elza, John and Homer; sisters Elsie and Sarah; granddaughter, Evelyn Roush; greatgrandson, James Allen Head.
She is survived by sons: Lee and wife, Helen, Francis and wife, Darlene, Ralph and wife, Margaret, and Harry and wife, Mary; daughter Juanita and husband, Cleo Boltinghouse; 21 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Gertie Bonsall of Clarinda, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Crawford of Aurora, Nebraska, Lola Crawford of New Market; one brother-in-law Arthur Lucas of Gravity; many nieces; nephews; and an uncountable host of friends.
In October 1959, Belle suffered a severe stroke which left her practically speechless and paralyzed on her right side. In spite of her disability she remained cheerful, had a ready smile and still accomplished some housework.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Sewal and spent two years in the home of her daughter. In August 1972, because of failing health she was taken to the Corydon Care Center, where she remained until her death.
She was a former member of the Valley Sunshine Club of Frog Valley, J.F.F. Club of Gravity and the Rebekah Lodge.
On June 11, 1972, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Corydon, Iowa.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, and she will be sorely missed by all who had the honor to know her. BEDFORD TIMES PRESS, Bedford, Iowa, Jun 26, 1980
