When William John Crawford was born on October 30, 1850, in Hart, Georgia, his father, William, was 36 and his mother, Sarah, was 33. He married Martha Gaines (1850–1924) on November 3, 1869, in his hometown.[1] They had 11 children during their marriage, only 7 were alive in 1900.[2] He died on March 21, 1922, in Hart, Georgia,[3] at the age of 71, and was buried in Hartwell, Georgia.
