Catherine was born in 1832 to Robert Crawford, Sherriff Officer and Agness Anderson, a Tambourer *Lace Weaver) of Dalry. The family home was named Kirk Close1.
In her teens, Catherine was employed as a House Servant 2 for Robert and Margaret Craig of Baidland House, Dalry.
Catherine and James gave their names for proclamation of marriage banns on December 13 1851. She and James Kyle had 10 known children during her marriage, 6 sons and 4 daughters. Two of their children were to die in their infancy.

In 1872 their daughter Catherine passed away aged 6[1] as well as son Thomas Crawford aged 2.[2]
James worked as an Iron Miner in Dalry, Ayrshire. He passed away in 1875 aged 47.
After James Kyle's death his eldest daughter Agnes, wife of John Shore. emigrated to New Zealand with their 2 young sons, Joseph and james, arriving at Bluff in February 1876.[3] Agnes Shore died in 1922 in Dunedin.[4]
Two years later, Catherine also emigrated under the NZ Assisted Immigrant Scheme and took the children to New Zealand sailing on the ship Wellington in 1878. Catherine was now 41, her sons Robert 22, John 18, Adam 6, and daughters, Janet 16 and Jane 10. The family arrived at Port Chalmers on February 28 1879 and settled in Dunedin.
Catherine's son William arrived in New Zealand in 1883 on the ship Nelson with his wife Jane and 2 young children, Katerin and James.[5] They settled in Kaitangata where he died in 1928.[6]
Catherine had been resident in New Zealand for 35 years when she passed away in 1913 aged 82 at her home, 51 Oxford Street, South Dunedin. She is buried at Andersons Bay cemetery. BLK 21 PLOT 88.[7]
At the time of her death Catherine had 6 children, 42 grand children and 42 great grand children.
