Biography

Thomas Aaron Crawford was born in 1866 in Georgia, probably Charlton County, Georgia, but perhaps Pierce or Ware County. He was the oldest child of his father's second marriage. His father, John C Crawford, had one son, Harlan or Harly, by his first wife, who died between 1860 and 1865. Thomas Aaron grew up in Charlton County, Georgia, in the Big Bend area near the Florida state line. There is evidence to suggest that John C Crawford moved easily back and forth between Baker County, Florida and Charlton County, Georgia. One of John C Crawford's properties in Baker County has been identified.

Thomas Aaron was a farmer in his adult life. He moved from Charlton County, Georgia to Bradford County, Florida in about 1906. The location of his propery in Charlton County, Georgia is not known. In Bradford County, Florida, the family farm of about 120 acres was located on the Brownlee Road (County Road 229), about four or five miles northwest of Starke. According to family stories, he was a prosperous, energetic man who also operated a cotton gin, a grist mill, and a sugar cane grinder, but whether these activities were done on his farm or elsewhere is not known.

In February 1920, a major winter ice storm hit northern Florida. Thomas Aaron Crawford's property and stock was damaged by this storm. He worked night and day for several days in icy, wet conditions and contracted pneumonia as a result of his labors. He died of pneumonia on 28 February 1920, at home, while still relativly young. He is buried in Dyal cemetery in Bradford County, Florida.

Research Notes

Adding Crawford Name Study Y-STR R1b category, based on tests taken by Carter Crawford and Dale Crawford. Y-STR category of I2 is based on current relationships up to David Crawford II (1662-abt.1762) and Y-DNA tests taken by his descendants. It is assumed that Thomas Crawford (abt.1720-abt.1819) is the point at which this lineage should be disconnected, as Y-DNA haplogroup R1b cannot be descended from Y-DNA haplogroup I2. Research still underway to gather as much evidence as possible before taking that step. Crawford-7109 17:12, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
