Graduated University of Pennsylvania, 1846; University of Pennsylvania Medical School, 1850.
Joined the army as assistant surgeon in 1851, moving to the infantry as a Major in 13th US Infantry after Fort Sumter, eventually promoted to Brigadier General.
Col. Crawford's regiment served in the South (Reconstruction, presumably) until 1869.
Retired from the US Army, 19 Feb 1873.
