DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:
According to the ancestors website, Lt Silas Cook (1736-1827) and Sarah Crawford (1734-1826) had about 15 children, 8 sons and 7 daughters. With a large flock of children, it seemed appropriate to list the children in birth date order and record their places of birth to see if any of the children might not belong to this list. We are trying to determine if Tabitha Cook (1766-1820) belongs to this group.
An analysis of the data turned up the following:
The 1790 US census shows both a Silas Cook and a David Cook at Adams, Berkshire, MA, but there is not positive identification available in the 1790 census. If Tabitha had brothers Silas and David as shown in ancestors then it could be possible for Tabitha to be of Adams, but not necessarily born there. There is no birth place for Tabitha shown in the ancestors bunch.
A marriage intention of Feb. 26 resulted in a marriage on Mar. 16, 1788, Rufus Werden and Tabitha Cook, both of Adams.
The remainder of the children were born in either Smithfield, RI or Newport, RI. Therefore we are suggesting that Tabitha Cook be removed from this list of children, because she is of Adams, Berkshire, MA, not Rhode Island. Also the spacing of the children shows Joseph Bernon Cooke (June 6, 1765 - Oct. 11, 1850), Tabitha Cooke (between 1765 and 1767 - 1820), and Martha Cooke (July 7, 1767 - Mar. 19, 1817), or every 18 months or so. Since the space between Joseph and Martha is 25 months or about two years, there would not be enough room to insert Tabitha into this family group to satisfy the 18 month spacing. Although not impossible for Tabitha to be included here, we are recommending her removal because of the spacing and the note that she was from Adams, MA.
Meanwhile the Silas Cook (1733) vs Silas Cook (1736) both married to Sarah Crawford (1734) needs to be resolved.
