Thomas was born about 1800. He married Elizabeth Taylor, likely in Prince George's County, about 1830-1831. Thomas and Elizabeth had four children who survived infancy.
Thomas passed away in 1848, leaving Elizabeth a widow with four children and a great deal of property. His will, signed 2 July 1844 and presented for probate in Prince George's County on 26 April 1848, named each of the children and his wife as soul heirs of his estate. Note that the will was signed with his "mark," but that he was literate. He stated that he was "not able to sign my name as a consequence of a paralytic attack in my right arm by which I have lost the use of it."[1]
An inventory of Thomas's estate was returned to the court that same day, estimating the value of his personal estate (excluding land) to be over $25,500. Included in the inventory (in groups of 3, identified by name, gender and value, but not age) were 60 slaves .[2]
