David Crawford was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1812. Around 1854 David and Margaret Crawford left Scotland to make their home in the new country of Upper Canada. When they arrived here, they probably had five children with them, aged from about one year old, to eleven. First they lived in Brockville; later they moved to Kingston. He worked as a gardener. He died in Kingston Ontario Canada in 1884. He is buried in Cataraqui Cemetary, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

David was born July 16, 1812 in Ayrshire, Scotland. He is the son of James Crawford and Mary (Campbell) Crawford. He was christened in Ayrshire, Scotland on July 21, 1812.

David Crawford is listed in the Ayrshire, Midlothian, Scotland census for 1851. It states he is 39 years old, male, born about 1812.
David and Margaret immigrated to Upper Canada sometime around 1854. They settled in Elizabethtown (Brockville), before moving on to Kingston.
1861 Ontario Census
David and his family are listed in the 1861 Ontario Census as Crofford.
Although his name is not spelled correctly on the original document, there is only one David Crawford known to be living in Frontenac at that time.
