Biography

Ingoldsby was born on August 7, 1786 in Union, Connecticut and his parents were Deacon Samuel Crawford, Senior and Sarah Work.[1] He was the eighth child of thirteen.[1]

Miss Rhoda Taft (1793-1864) and Mr. Ingoldsby Work Crawford were married on May 29, 1810 in Union, Connecticut.[1] They became the parents of nine children.[1]

In 1818 he represented Tolland County at the Connecticut State Constitutional Convention.[1]

In the 1830s Ingoldsby was a United States Customs Collector in New London, Connecticut.[1][2]

Ingoldsby was a Freemason and he was a member of Putnam Lodge No. 46 for almost sixty years having been raised in 1809, and was Worshipful Master for three years.[3] In 1832, he was appointed by MW Thomas Hubbard to draft and distribute the “Declaration of Masons”.[3] He presided over the triennials in 1838 and 1841. [3] Crawford was a member and Past High Priest of Warren Chapter No. 12 and a member of Montgomery Council No. 2.[3] He was also a member of Adoniram Chapter No. 18 RAM.[3] He rose to become Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter and General Grand King of the General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. [3]

Ingoldsby's beloved wife, Rhoda (1793-1864), passed away on April 6, 1864. She is buried at Rindge Cemetery, Union, Connecticut

The Honorable Ingoldsby Work Crawford died on November 24, 1867 either in Stamford, Connecticut or in Union, Connecticut[1][4]
