Eli was both September 30, 1820 and christened August 21, 1824 at the St. James Cathedral in Toronto. According to the 1851 census, Eli may have been born in 1818.
His first marriage was to Mary Leary on February 9, 1844 in Chinguacousy. Ten months later, she died giving birth to James Leary Crawford. James later died at six months old in 1845.
Eli's second marriage was to Margaret Stafford on June 11, 1846 in Chinguacousy. They had five children.
In the 1851 census, Eli is living with Margaret, three children, and his father, Ralph. In the 1851 and 1871, Eli is listed as a farmer. In the 1891 census Eli and Margaret living with two "domestic" boarders/servants, and in 1901 they are living with one "domestic."
Eli died April 19, 1912 and was buried in Brampton Cemetery. His birth, both marriages, and death are recorded in the family bible.
