John Walter Crawmer, 88, of Westminster, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at home, following a brief illness.
Born April 4, 1924, in Gamber, he was the son of the late Roland O. and Bessie David Brown Crawmer. He was the husband of Eleanor Stouffer Crawmer, who died Dec. 1, 2012.
He served in the Marine Corps, 4th division, from 1942 until 1945. He was wounded in Iwo Jima, receiving one Purple Heart and two Gold Stars. His specialty was marksmanship.
Following his time in the service he worked in a gas station, then with Henry Mathias Electrical and retired from Black and Decker in 1983 as a quality control inspector, after 17 years of employment. He was a member of Stone Chapel United Methodist Church, the Taneytown American Legion, and was a life member of Westminster American Legion.
He enjoyed woodworking, making rocking chairs for each of his grandchildren and wooden Christmas ornaments for his family. He also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and spending time with his family.
Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie C. and Eddie Eckard, of Union Bridge, and Kathy L. and Charlie Keeney, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; grandchildren John Eckard, Sandy Eckard and Dawn Creek; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Trish Eckard.[1]
