Edward was born in 12 September 1812 at Bexley, Kent, England to Edward Hill Creasy and Amelia. He was baptised on the 4 November 1812 at Peckham Hanover Chapel - Independent, Camberwell,Surrey. He was educated at Eton and went to Kings College in Cambridge. He became a lawyer and was called to the Bar in 1837. On 18 August 1846 he married Mary Maria Cottam at St Marylebone. He also taught History at the University of London. Their first child Amelia was born about 1850 at St John's Hampstead in London. In the 1851 Census he was living in Hampstead with Mary and Amelia, his sister-in-law Fanny Juliet Cottam was visiting and there were four other women in the household, possibly servants. In 1853 his first son Robert Tamplin Creasy was born but he died about a year later. In 1855 another son, Leonard, was born. In 1855 he was living at 6 Marlborough Hill, St John's Wood. 1856 saw the birth of Bessie followed by Nora in 1858. When his son Francis was born the family was living in Wimbledon. In 1860 Edward was knighted by Queen Victoria and was appointed Chief justice in Ceylon. His sons Harry, Laurence, Edward and Rolf were all born in Ceylon. he wrote at least seven histories and a novel. He died 27 January 1878 in London.
