Bertram Walter Creese was born 2 September1905 in Danvers, Massachusetts. He was the 3rd child of Walter Creese and Lillian Dodge. [1][2][3]
On the 1910 U.S. Census for Danvers, Essex, Massachusetts, Bertram Creese was 4 yrs. old. His father, Walter T. Creese, was 40 yrs. old & a manufacturer of leather. His mother, Lillian E., who was 41 yrs. old. His siblings were: Guy T. 17 yrs. old, Mildred L. 16 yrs. old, & Helen F. 2 yrs. old.[4]
On the 1920 U.S. Census for Danvers, Essex, Massachusetts, Bertram was 14 yrs. old. His father, Walter T. Creese, was 50 yrs. old & a leather manufacturer. His mother, Lillian, was 50 yrs. old. His only sibling still at home was: Helen F. 11 yrs. old, Also, living with them was his aunt Clara Dodge.[5]
In 1922, Bert graduated from Holten High School in Danvers, Massachusetts.[6]
He then attended Phillips Exeter Academy, and graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1927. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi. In 1929 he graduated form Harvard School of Business.[7]
Bert Creese married Edith Sargent Holden in Beverly, Massachusetts August 1927. [8] Edith was born 8 Nov. 1906 in Beverly, Massachusetts. Edith was the daughter of John Pickett Holden and Annie May (Southwick) Holden.
On the 1930 U.S. Census for Danvers, Massachusetts, Bert was 23 yrs. old & working at the family leather factory. His wife, Edith, was also 30 yrs. old.[9]
On the 1940 U.S. Census for Winchester, Massachusetts, Bertram was 39 & an account manager of the tannery. His wife, Edith, was 33 yrs. old. They had two twin sons, William E. & Bertram T., both 1 yr. old.[10]
On the 1950 U.S. Census for Danvers, Massachusetts, Bert Creese was 44 yrs. old and was working as the Labor Relations Manager for leather manufacturers. His wife, Edith, was 43 yrs. old. Their sons, William & Bertram were 11 yrs. old[11]
"Bertram devoted his entire business career to labor relations, serving the leather industry as executive secretary for the Massachusetts Leather Manufacturers Association. He was one of three Greater Boston Businessmen selected by the Labor Guild of the Archdiocese of Boston for the 1979 Chushing Award for excellence in the field of labor relations."[12]
Bert died 14 Feb 1993 in Palm City Florida at the age of 87, following a long illness.[13] Bert & his wife Edith are buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Danvers, Massachusetts; Plot: Section D, Lot 850, Grave 4.[14]
