Biography

Nancy Crews was born 7 Oct 1802 in Bedford County, Virginia to Edward Crews and Lauraina "Reyney" Palmore. This is proven through the marriage bond that Edward signed giving his consent for his daughter to marry Olly Crooke. Please see photo.

Unfortunately, this Nancy Crews has been confused with the daughter of Robert Hunnicut Crews, Nancy Terrell, who was born in 1808 and married Nathan Parker.

Nancy Crews had a sister, Polly, who was born 8 Nov 1805 and married John Sampson Sharp. Shortly after the birth of these two girls, Lauraina "Reyney" Palmore Crews died. Her exact death date and burial place are not known at this time. Lauraina, dec'd, and her girls are named in Benjamin Palmore's will dated 27 Feb 1824 Bedford County, Virginia.

Nancy Crews (no middle name) married Olly Crooke in Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky on 20 Oct 1819. They had thirteen children together:

Sally Ann Crooke b 13 June 1821

James Monroe Crooke b 12 Aug 1822 and died 18 Jan 1908.

Howard Crooke b 7 Feb 1825 and died 27 April 1895.

Cyrus Crooke b 15 Nov 1827 and died 23 Aug 1914.

John Crooke b 1832, died 1834 age 14 months.

Elizabeth Crooke b 3 May 1830 and died 9 Aug 1902.

William Pitt Crooke b 1833 and died 1 month later.

Mary Katherine Crooke b 14 April 1840 and died Oct 1840.

Semiramis Crooke b 17 Oct 1845 and died 1847, aged 2 years.

Nancy Crews Crooke died 17 March 1882 in Odon, Daviess County, Indiana and was buried at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in that county.

This proves it! For twenty years we have had the wrong parents of Nancy Crews who married Olly Crooke. Here is the consent given BY HER FATHER Edward Crews for her to marry Olly Crooke. Let's get busy and find out what happened to her father EDWARD.

Deed Bk T, page 198, 18 Nov 1824: Jesse Crews (JR) to Edward Crews -- in consideration of occasional inability [disability?] of body and mind - and incapacity to transact advantageously his domestic affairs - for $1.00 - sells all his interest in and to the estate of his Father Jesse Crews deceased - all real and personal in KY or elsewhere - also all land devised him from his Mother Amy Crews - also cattle and furniture - during natural life of Jesse Crews - Edward Crews binds himself [to provide] a decent support for Jesse as long as he lives... Both Jesse and Edward sign, and doc recorded 21 Dec 1824.
