Terence remembers Kenneth who was a constable having to go to the Waihi Police Station on his balloon tiered bike from his home in the second world war years quickly because planes flew low over our area and he was not notified that it was only a drill. Also we used to go to Black Hill and pick blackberries that mother used to make into jam. We bought a cow named Molly . Dad milked her in the morning and I milked her at night. Lucy separated the milk into cream and made butter as we were rationed at the time. I think each person was allowed 2 ounces of butter a week. Dad was a great gardener and fish and chips were a delicacy as we usually eat vegetables from his garden. He grew tomatoes from seed and his brother Bill, used to send inion plants from Pukekohe each year to plant. Later on we joined the cycle club in Waihi and dad was the handicapper. When a motor car was bought we travelled around the North Island to a number of cycle meetings as far as Kaikohe in the north to Parlmiston North in the south.
