He is known as “Ted” Crisp and was born 6/2/1915 at Murray Bridge where he commenced his education at the Primary School. Because of his mother’s ill health he lived in 1922 and 1923 with his maternal grandparents in Adelaide where he attended school at Wellington Road and became a member of the school band. He then returned to Murray Bridge where he completed his schooling at the High School - he was a member of the school cricket and football teams. Ted completed a woodwork course at the Murray Bridge school of Mines and in 1938 started work as a jackaroo at Nalpa station. He took an active interest in Scouting from 1927 and by 1938 had risen to the rank of Group Scoutmaster. He was active in sports :cricket, football and tennis and, to a lesser degree, athletics. He was a member of the Murray Bridge Town band for almost 10 years. In 1940 Ted enlisted in the A.I.F. in the 2/8 Field Ambulance and after training in Australia was sent to the Middle East War Zone. Ted served at Tobruk, El Alamein and Syria and later saw service in New Guinea and Borneo. Because of his band experience, he became a member of the Unit Bagpipe and Bugle Band - the only one of it’s kind in the A.I.F. Ted joined the P.M.G. Department after the war and, after serving in various centres, was appointed Admin. Officer at Whyalla in 1959 where he remained until retirement in 1976.
