Eleanor (Crisp) Atkinson was born in England.

Birth Eleanor (Ellen) Crisp was born about 1806 in Whittingham, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom. She was the daughter of John Crisp and Elizabeth (Hansby) Crisp. ^[1]

Baptism Eleanor was baptised on 31 March 1806 at Glanton Presbyterian, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom. ^[2] Please see Research Notes below for important discussion about some confusion that exists within online family trees regarding the identity of the Eleanor recorded in this particular 1806 baptism.

Marriage Eleanor and John Atkinson were married about 1829. Their marriage record has not yet been located.

1841 Census In the 1841 census Eleanor (age 35) was in Eglingham, Northumberland, England.^[3]

1851 Census In the 1851 census Ellen (age 45), Ag Lab Wife, was the widowed head of household in Branton, Northumberland, England.^[4]

1861 Census In the 1861 census Eleanor (age 54) was the widowed head of household in Alnmouth, Northumberland, England.^[1]

Death Eleanor died on 21 February 1864 in Alnmouth, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom, aged about 57.^[5]

Research Notes

There is some confusion within online trees regarding a baptism record from Glanton Presbyterian for an Eleanor Crisp daughter of John and Elizabeth Crisp, baptised 31 March 1806. ^[2]

Some online family trees have this 1806 baptism attached to Eleanor who married John Atkinson, others have it attached to Eleanor who married John Hudson.

I have not yet viewed a copy of the original record from the Glanton Presbyterian Church records.

However, I have seen a transcription of the record on FindMyPast in the collection Northumberland Baptisms as follows:

There is a place called Howbalk in the parish of Whittingham.

On 1851 Census record for Ellen/Eleanor (Crisp) Atkinson gave her birthplace as Whittingham, Northumberland.^[4] On the 1861 Census record, Eleanor's birthplace was given as what appears to be Glantlees, Northumberland (perhaps the Glantlees in Felton Parish ? or maybe the enumerator misheard Glanton?). ^[1]

Eleanor who married John Hudson gave her birthplace on each census as Lowick, Northumberland. ^[8][9] Her surname before marriage was Eleanor Thompson.

A O'Brien - I believe the 1806 baptism is very likely Eleanor (Crisp) Atkinson. I believe this for the following reasons:

• The birthplaces given by both Eleanors on the Census suggest that Eleanor (Crisp) Atkinson is the most likely candidate for the Eleanor Crisp on the 1806 baptism record.
• Brothers named John and Joshua. Eleanor (Crisp) Atkinson also had sons named John and Joshua.
• Research shows that Mrs Eleanor Hudson had the surname Thompson before marriage.
