Biography

PELAGIE BENOIT, VEUVE YVES CROCHET is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 10-L, L'Amitie arivee le 7 novembre 1785, Listed with her are her children, Jean Guillaume, Yves, Julien, Francoise, and Margueritte.[1]

Marguerite Perrine Crochet was born 23 May 1766 at Quesny, a hamlet of Mégrit, Bretagne (today Côtes-d'Armor), France, and baptized the same day at Mégrit. Her parents were French-born Yves Crochet and Acadian-born Pélagie Blanche Benoit.[2]

After the death of her father, Yves Crochet, in France, the family of five children immigrated to Louisiana on the ship l'Amitié led by her widowed mother, Pélagie Benoit.[3]

  1. Jean Guillaume Crochet,
  2. Françoise Pélagie Crochet,
  3. Marguerite Perrine Crochet,
  4. Yves Jean Crochet, and
  5. Julien Crochet.

The ship left France on 20 August 1785 and arrived at the port of New Orleans, Louisiana on 8 November 1785.[4]

About two weeks after their arrival in New Orleans, she married Joseph Adam, an immigre and fellow passenger on l'Amitié.[5]

  3. Marcelin Adam (1793)[8]
  4. Pierre Alexandre Adam (1795)[9]
  5. Similien Adam (1798)[10]

She died in 1830 in Thibodaux, Louisiana.[citation needed]
