Biography

John Crofut, 2nd son of Josiah Crofut and Sarah Benedict, was named in his father's 1764 probate distributions.[1] He deceased by 1787, when the distribution of his mother's estate names him deceased his share going to his heirs: John Crofut, Eli Crofut, Rockwell Crofut, Mary and Hannah Crofut,[1]

There was an Eli Crofut, s/o John Crofut, of about 14 years (b. c. 1773) who was appointed a guardian, John Crofut, on 17 Dec 1787.[2]

He may be the John Crofutt of Newtown whose estate was declared forfeit by the County Court. It was inventoried on 16 Jan 1779. Use of 1/3 of the estate was set off to Mary and the rest of the family on 4 May 1779.[3][4]

A Wid. Molly Crofut was listed near (her son?) John and other Crofuts in 1790 Federal Census of Newtown.[3]
